The North West police have arrested a 33-year-old male suspect following a brutal incident that left three family members dead in Kgomotso village, North West.

Working in tandem with community members, the police tracked down the suspect and arrested him in Shaleng village on Saturday, November 16, 2024, about 06:00.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspect entered the family shack, where he found his family gathered around the coffee table, and he started assaulting his father, Mosimanegape Kale (74), striking him in the head with a knobkerrie.

“Thereafter family members fled through a window and ran to neighbours for assistance. The suspect then assaulted his mother, Phodisho Kale (68) and Sister Bonolo Kale (27) with a knobkerrie over their heads and fled the scene,” said North West police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh.

The Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) declared all three victims (father, mother, and sister) dead at the scene.

Following his arrest the suspect was charged with triple murder and appeared at the Kgomotso Periodical Court on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident. He commended the community for their support and dedication in helping the police arrest the suspect and stated that the police will work hard to ensure a successful prosecution.
