The scourge of extortion continues to plague Mthatha, with numerous cases reported in and around the area. The inaction has left victims and whistleblowers frustrated and emboldened the extortionists, according to Dr Matshaya. She called on law enforcement agencies to take immediate action to address the situation, saying that the community was losing faith in their ability to protect them.
With the extortion cases showing no signs of abating, residents are demanding justice and an end to the culture of impunity that has allowed the syndicates to flourish.
