MTHATHA — A high-level meeting on 18 December 2025 has triggered the start of an urgent action plan to improve operations at Mthatha Airport. The plan follows sustained complaints from the public over limited flights, high ticket prices and poor services.
The meeting involved the MEC for Transport, the Executive Mayor of O.R. Tambo District Municipality, and senior officials. It resulted in a formal shift from discussions to action, according to the Municipality.
What Happened
Airport users have raised concerns for months about unreliable flight schedules, high fares, and safety risks. These were formally escalated by the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mesuli Ngqondwana, to the District Mayors’ Forum and the provincial government.
A decisive meeting was held on 18 December 2025, where government leaders agreed to move forward with a structured implementation plan for improvements.
