The meticulous investigation and determination led to the successful prosecution of three rapists in two separate incidents by detectives at the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Mount Ayliff on Friday, 06 October 2023.
A 40-year-old man from Ntabankulu will no longer pose a threat to society as he was handed a life term imprisonment for the rape of his 7-year-old relative. The child was raped in November 2021 by her uncle when they were left alone at the house. He was arrested and remained in custody until the finalisation of the case. On Friday, 06 October 2023, justice was served when he was sentenced in the Mount Frere Regional court.
In another incident, involving a 13-year-old victim, two males, aged 18 and 19, were also sentenced in the same court for rape of a teenager in Mbizana in June 2019. The victim was dragged by the 19-year-old teenager to the bedroom of the 18-year-old where she was sexually assaulted by the 18-year-old and raped by the 19-year-old male. The 19-year-old was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment while his co-accused was sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment for sexual assault.
Alfred Nzo District Commissioner, Maj Gen Nompumelelo Majikijela praised the exceptional work by the investigating officers in these cases.
‘The success of these cases can be attributed to the thorough investigation by the detectives. They have left no stone unturned, gathering evidence including analysing every detail to build an airtight case against the accused. The SAPS is committed to tirelessly pursue justice for the victim, and those who commit such unspeakable acts will face the full might of the law,’ added Maj Gen Majikijela.
