Social media is buzzing following a post that has been making rounds with a picture of a bus stuck in a muddy road. On the post, it is stated that the picture was taken in ward 24 at Matatiele.
Meanwhiile, Matatiele Local Municipality communications Head Luncedo Walaza denies these allegations stating that the picture was not taken in Matatiele.
“We saw that post on Friday [11 November] and did our investigations which proved that the picture was never taken in Matatiele but was taken somewhere in Umzimvubu Local Municipality. We therefore urge the residents to first verify the facts before sharing a post on social media platforms,’ said Luncedo Walaza.
There are roads that are currently under construction in Matatiele such as Nkosana access road, Mahangu access road and a Bridge, Mavundleni access road, etc. Amongst those who shared the post on Facebook it was Simthembile Madikizela the newly elected Economic Freedom Fighter’s Provincial secretary in the Eastern Cape.
“Residents are really suffering in Matatiele especially now that it’s raining frequently. As the EFF on March this year we raised a motion which suggested that the municipality should buy its own equipment’s so that the municipality cannot rely on private entities to fix the road, but that motion was rejected”. Said Siseko Sikhafungana the EFF Acting secretary in the Alfred Nzo district.
Skhafungana added that the picture showed exactly what Matatiele residents are going through, blaming the mayor for negligence.
