A 59-year-old man, Solomzi Ndika-Ndika, has been sentenced to five years of direct imprisonment by the East London Regional Court in the Eastern Cape for submitting a false Road Accident Fund (RAF) claim.
In January 2016, Ndika-Ndika claimed that he was involved in a motor vehicle accident while traveling from Elliot to Cala, resulting in injuries. However, a comprehensive investigation by the Hawks revealed discrepancies between the documents submitted by Ndika-Ndika and the police report.
The RAF repudiated the claim and referred the matter to the Hawks, which led to the discovery that Ndika-Ndika’s misrepresentation nearly resulted in a loss of over R1.6 million for the RAF.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court declared Ndika-Ndika unfit to possess a firearm, and no option for a fine was given in the matter. Eastern Cape HAWKS spokesperson Avele Fumba confirmed the sentencing.
