The trial of the Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julias Malema, was supposed to start on Monday 05 September but due to the unavailability of his attorney the case has been postponed. The trial was scheduled for the whole week.

The East London Regional Court has postponed the case for next year starting from 30 January to 03 February 2023. Malema’s attorney indicated that he is attending another matter and would not be able to attend the case in East London.

Malema is accused of shooting a firearm during his party’s rally in 2018 in Mdantsane, East London. Malema is charged along with security company director Adrian Snyman who unlawfully gave Malema a firearm and ammunition.

Malema together with his co-accused have requested a postponement in absentia because their representative is attending the Life at Esidimeni matter which is held in Pretoria and could not make it in court.
