Schools Themba Dyasi

Schools remain closed despite the acting director of (Cluster, A) Themba Dyasi’s Firm instructions that all schools must be operational, he said there is no instruction from the HOD or the Honourable MEC that school must be closed.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”There is no school governing body that has authority to close schools, there is no SGB Chairperson that must come to a school and say the school must close and interupt education of the children” said Themba Dyasi.[/perfectpullquote]

The acting Director said, in terms of the Law no SGB member has the right to instruct people not to go to school. He said they are all going to account at their various levels should school close, and if there are any schools that have already been closed, they must open with immediate effect. He said they are attending to all the problems that have been raised by the SGB units on their petitions.

Crisis committee (Alfred Ndzo East) Spokesperson Lucky Shusha said, following the meeting they had on Monday, they had agreed that the acting director is not fit to respond to their grievances. They are going to shutdown schools until the head of department, Honourable Gade and Honourable MEC Dr Mbude come to Bizana and respond to the issues at hand.

The schools demand independence, they want decentralization of monies to schools, they want EAs GSAs to be paid by the department; they want permanent employment for candidates who are occupying acting positions and schools that are declared disaster schools to be revamped.

There is still no clear indication of whether or not pupils will return to school on Monday or schools will remain shut down.
