Residents in parts of Umzimvubu Local Municipality will experience a planned water interruption on Monday, 9 March 2026.
The Alfred Nzo District Municipality issued a public notice warning that water supply will be temporarily unavailable in Mount Frere town and Sophia Town in Ward 18 while emergency repairs are carried out on a key water pipeline.
What happened
The municipality announced that water supply will be interrupted from 09:00 to 17:00 on Monday, 9 March 2026.
The outage will affect residents in:
- Mount Frere town
- Sophia Town (Ward 18)
According to the notice, the interruption is required to allow emergency repairs on the Ntentyana Raw Water gravity line, which supplies the Kwa-Bhaca Water Treatment Works (WTW).
Why it matters
The repair work may leave households and businesses without water for several hours during the day.
Residents in affected areas are advised to store water in advance for essential household use until supply is restored.
What happens next
Water supply is expected to resume once repairs on the gravity pipeline are completed.
However, the municipality noted that temporary disruptions may continue until the system is fully stabilised.
What residents should do
Residents in the affected areas should:
- Store water before 09:00 on 9 March
- Use water sparingly during the interruption
- Monitor official municipal updates
