The Umzimvubu Local Municipality has confirmed that no major damage has been reported in its jurisdiction following the severe weather conditions that swept across the Eastern Cape in recent days.
While the municipality experienced widespread power outages, these were traced to faults in two main Eskom power lines that feed approximately 10 substations. According to a municipal update, power had already been restored to parts of KwaBhaca and EmaXesibeni by Tuesday evening.
“While we are grateful that the area has not experienced any major destruction, we urge all residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution,” said Mayor Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu.
Municipal officials have advised residents to avoid flooded areas and report any emergencies to local ward councillors or the Municipal Disaster Management Unit. Law enforcement and the Alfred Nzo District Disaster Management team are actively monitoring conditions and will continue issuing updates via social media.
“We are keeping a close eye on the situation,” confirmed Municipal Manager Mr. Tobela Nota.
