Four babies were born at Bhisho Hospital and three at Stutterheim Hospital between 31 December 2025 and New Year’s Day. All newborns and mothers were reported to be in good health.

At Stutterheim Hospital, MEC Nqatha was joined by Amahlathi Local Municipality Mayor Nomakhosazana Nongqayi to mark the occasion.

The visits were part of an annual initiative to celebrate new life and encourage maternal care in the Eastern Cape.

Gifts handed to mothers and call for child protection

MEC Nqatha presented gifts to all mothers whose babies were born on New Year’s Day, as well as those born late on 31 December 2025.

He emphasised the importance of early protection, care, and education, stating that the children born this week “are the future leaders of our country.”
