The Eastern Cape Police are investigating the murder of seven individuals from the same family in Tanseka Village in the Bityi region of Eastern Cape on Wednesday night.

It is reported that police were called to the scene of the incident, where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to the head. The victims are believed to be between the ages of 29 to 68.

It is alleged that the incident happened as they were preparing to bury the wife, Novotile Mgxada(62), who was shot and killed last week.

According to surviving eyewitnesses, armed men stormed into the family’s home and demanded burial society funds that had allegedly been dropped off earlier.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, has directed that a team be assigned to investigate the gruesome incident.

She says six people died on the scene while the seventh victim succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.

Colonel Naidu says the investigation has been taken over by the Provincial Organized Crime Unit.
