The Mhlontlo Local Municipality, through its Local Economic Development, Planning and Rural Development Department, handed over a number of rams to farmers on 3 December.
The beneficiaries are farmers who have consistently taken part in the annual Agricultural Show hosted at Tsolo Agricultural College (TARDI).
These rams will be introduced into the existing herds of both individual farmers and those of the wider Mhlontlo community. The goal is to improve the quality and economic value of locally raised sheep.
“We want to change the type of sheep we have raised so that we can start producing a type that brings in money,” said a municipal official during the handover.

The municipality hopes this breeding strategy will support long-term rural economic development and strengthen livestock farming across the region.
