The Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality hosted a two-day End year Nkciyo function Progress Celebration at Amantsangase from 27 to 28 November 2025 in Bizana. The gathering brought girls, parents, elders, and leaders together to promote cultural learning and positive behaviour. The event aimed to strengthen the Nkciyo programme and support youth development.
What Happened
Over both days, facilitators led open discussions on culture, safety, behaviour, and self-respect. The programme focused on discipline, dignity, and unity among young participants.
Mrs Songololo, who oversees Nkciyo assessments in the area, said she remains committed to guiding the girls with the support of community leaders and the municipality.
“We work with these girls daily. Their growth shows the value of protecting our culture,” she said.
Government departments, private organisations, community structures, and parents joined the sessions to show strong support for the initiative.

Official Response
Municipal leaders praised the programme. Councillor M. Mphetshwa thanked traditional authorities and families for keeping Nkciyo active and meaningful.
“This collaboration makes the programme a success. Our girls are the pride of this region,” he said.
In addition, university students who continue to participate in Nkciyo received gifts of appreciation. Their joy drew applause from parents and guests, who welcomed the gesture as a way to motivate younger girls.
Community Impact
Residents said the two-day celebration renewed their confidence in youth development. Many felt encouraged by the unity shown by families, elders, and leaders.
“This event lifts the entire community. It keeps our traditions alive and supports our children,” one elder shared.
The programme forms part of the municipality’s annual cultural calendar and will return next year in partnership with local Komkhulu structures.
