President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially appointed Judge President Dunstan Mlambo as the country’s new Deputy Chief Justice, effective 1 August 2025. The appointment follows the departure of Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, who served in an acting capacity after Mandisa Maya was elevated to Chief Justice in 2024.

Justice Mlambo will now be the second-highest judicial officer in South Africa, overseeing Constitutional Court operations and supporting Chief Justice Mandisa Maya.
