South Africans are being urged to stay alert as Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa warns of possible flooding during the festive season due to above-normal rainfall and thunderstorms.
What to expect this festive season
The Highveld will likely see frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Meanwhile, eastern provinces such as the Eastern Cape face a 30%–60% chance of storms as Christmas and New Year approach. These conditions increase the risk of flash floods, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Residents and travellers should take extra care on roads and near rivers or streams.
