  • Support for Communal Farming in Amathole District: The MEC for Agriculture presented two tractors to Queens Traditional Leadership to enhance communal farming efforts, aiming to increase production and strengthen rural food systems.
  • Empowerment Initiatives for Women Farmers and Agricultural Cooperatives: Symbolic handovers included 13 Nguni cows to women farmers and two sewing machines for cooperatives, intended to improve livestock quality, promote commercial farming, and create income opportunities.

The University of Fort Hare Sports Centre was filled with celebration as Premier Oscar Mabuyane led the Eastern Cape’s Women’s Day 2025 event under the theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”.

The day placed a strong focus on the role of women in agriculture and rural development, highlighting the importance of sustainability, empowerment, and economic transformation.

MEC for Agriculture, Nonceba Kontsiwe, presented two tractors to the Queens Traditional Leadership in the Amathole District to support communal farming. The initiative is expected to boost production, benefit multiple households, and strengthen rural food systems.

As part of the Department of Agriculture’s empowerment programmes, symbolic handovers were also made, 13 Nguni cows to women farmers, aimed at improving livestock quality and promoting commercial farming, two sewing machines for agricultural cooperatives involved in value addition, agro-processing, and garment production, creating additional income opportunities for rural women.

The celebration underscored the province’s commitment to empowering women and promoting inclusive growth through targeted agricultural support.
