The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) has issued a traffic advisory notifying motorists that blasting will take place on the N2 national road between KwaBhaca and EmaXesibeni on Friday, 10 October 2025.
The blast is scheduled approximately 13.9 kilometres from KwaBhaca when travelling towards EmaXesibeni. SANRAL has urged motorists to plan their trips accordingly and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
Alternative Routes and Travel Time
Motorists travelling from Kokstad to Mthatha are advised to exit the N2 at Kokstad and use the R56 route towards Matatiele to Nqanarhu via Tlokoeng, then take the R396 route to Tsolo, and rejoin the N2. Alternatively, drivers may travel via Flagstaff and Lusikisiki to Port St Johns using the R61, then rejoin the N2 at Mthatha.
Those travelling in the opposite direction, from Mthatha to Kokstad, are encouraged to use the same detour. The shortest alternative route is estimated to be 69 kilometres longer and may add around 50 minutes to the journey between Mthatha and Kokstad.
SANRAL’s Advisory
“Motorists are asked to plan their trips accordingly, consider alternative routes and to use caution when making use of the road,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL’s Eastern Cape Provincial Head.
SANRAL apologised for any inconvenience caused and reminded drivers to stay alert during roadworks and blasting operations.
