On Friday night 16 September, at approximately 23H00 two vehicles collided and both caught fire. The accident occurred on the N2 road in East London near Western Avenue turn off.

A VW Golf heading towards Butterworth collided with a BMW vehicle with the three year old boy which from Butterworth to East London, both vehicles were facing opposite directions.

Both drivers died on the scene while the three year old was rushed to Frere Hospital for further medical attention after sustaining severe injuries.

Unathi Binqose spokesperson for the Department of Transport in Eastern Cape said, “It is alleged that the main contributing factors of this accident are reckless driving and negligence.”

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Cambridge Police Station in East London for further investigations.
