The Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality hosted a quarterly meeting of the local Aids Council on Wednesday, February 18, at the Council Chambers in Mbizana. Mayor Cllr Daniswa Mafumbatha presided over the meeting, which brought together various stakeholders to discuss strategies to combat HIV/AIDS, TB, and social practices such as gender-based violence and femicide.
The meeting aimed to promote collaboration between government departments, civil society organizations, and medical professionals to identify solutions and support those affected. “The municipality is determined to work with the community to support each other and make a real difference in the lives of those affected” Mayor said.
During the meeting, Mafumbatha touched on recent tragic events that have affected the community, including a truck accident that claimed the lives of eight congregation members and a family tragedy that resulted in the loss of six lives. He emphasized the need for collective action to address the social challenges facing the community.
The meeting was attended by representatives from government departments, community organizations, Alfred Nzo District Municipality, and traditional healers. The council is committed to working together to create a future without HIV/AIDS, GBV, and the killing of women.
