Mbizana continues to shine on the national stage as local resident Ntandokazi Mlamleli, from Ebenezer in Ward 24 of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, walked away with a major honour at the 2025 South African Heroes Awards.
The prestigious event was held in Auckland Park, with nominees from across the country. Mlamleli won in the Specialised Care category, nominated by community members for her outstanding contribution to women’s empowerment and youth development.
“I was overwhelmed with excitement and disbelief when my name was called,” said Mlamleli after receiving the award.
Mlamleli expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family, especially her husband, for standing by her throughout her journey. She also thanked Mayor Daniswa Mafumbatha, who arranged travel and accommodation support at the eleventh hour.
“The municipality booked a flight for me, but I chose to travel with my family instead. Their moral support meant everything,” she said.
Mlamleli leads a range of initiatives under her NPO, Philisa Imbokodo, focusing on uplifting women and youth through education and mentorship.
Her key activities include peer-to-peer education sessions, gender-based violence (GBV) awareness campaigns, community dialogues, and grooming and mentoring young girls through virginity testing programmes.
She also holds the position of communications liaison officer for the Lurholweni Women’s Forum, where she helps coordinate advocacy efforts and local events.
At the heart of Mlamleli’s work is a passion for creating safe, empowering environments for women and girls. Her efforts are rooted in cultural values, spiritual growth, and community care.
