South African Police Service members and King Sabata Dalindyebo law enforcement officers achieved a weighty victory against crime in Zandukwana, Mthatha. Their joint efforts resulted in the arrest of three male suspects, aged between 23 and 37, along with the recovery of four unlicensed firearms and various explosives.

The operation began when King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality law enforcement officers detained the suspects, who were in possession of three 9mm pistols and a revolver, all of which had their serial numbers filed off. Realizing the potential threat, they promptly called for backup from SAPS members.

In a swift response, the SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT) conducted a follow-up operation at the suspects’ home in Zandukwana, uncovering hidden V6 explosive blasting cartridges and shock tube assemblies. The team extended their search to the Manxiweni locality, where they discovered additional explosives, including detonators, stock tubes assemblies, a gas cylinder, and a gas lighting cutting torch.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, praised the collaborative efforts of the law enforcement teams involved. “This operation highlights the power of partnership in ensuring the safety of our community,” he stated.

With the recovery of these dangerous weapons, authorities are sending a strong message that illegal arms possession will not be tolerated. The suspects now face serious charges, including unlawful possession of firearms and explosives.
