As the fight against gender based violence continues across South Africa, the Gophi family kwa-Bhaca is seeking community support in their fight against a man who allegedly raped their 6-year-old daughter at Ikhwezi Lomso Edu Centre.

According to reports the 6-year-old grade 1 learner was allegedly raped in school premises during break time. Liyomi Gophi the victim’s mother says her daughter told her that she was having lunch alongside her school mates when the alleged rapistsnatched and took the poor child to an old shack that is used as a toolroom keeping old desks, where he allegedly raped her.

“My daughter is so traumatised, she doesn’t even want to go to school”, says the mother.  Adding that she has been going up and down Mt free trying to get a new school for her daughter as she is still frightened by this incident.

Meanwhile, the director at Ikhwezi Lomso Edu centre says teachers are still puzzled by this incident as it is the first of its kind in their school. Stating that the alleged perpetrator’s contract with the school has been terminated.

The Gophi’s are now seeking for support as the alleged victim will be appearing at Mount Free Magistrate court on Monday the 30th of May.
