In an effort to address illegal parking and improve traffic management, the KSD Municipality’s Public Safety and Traffic Management, in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS), initiated Operation ‘DUDULA’ along Stanford Terrace Street in Mthatha. From Friday evening, municipal trucks were deployed to tow vehicles found to be parked unlawfully, eliciting a wave of appreciation from nearby residents for the much-needed intervention.
As the operation entered its second day, residents near Highness expressed gratitude for the municipality’s proactive measures, remarking that such actions were long overdue. However, the evening’s proceedings proved more challenging, with over ten vehicles towed due to reckless parking. Amidst the enforcement activities, an incident occurred where a man in his 30s, claiming to be a police officer in Gqeberha, attempted to interfere with the operation, resulting in the discovery of liquor during a subsequent stop and search.
The operation expanded its scope to the City of Mthatha, where additional vehicles were towed for non-compliance with traffic regulations. Law enforcement officers remain committed to ensuring strict adherence to traffic rules, with the operation ongoing to ensure public safety and orderly traffic flow in the municipality.
