A joint operation was conducted by the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality in Ward 16 (Bizana) on Tuesday, 4 March, focusing on inspecting spaza shops and promoting safe food handling practices to protect public health.
This collaborative effort brought together local authorities and stakeholders to ensure that food sold in these shops is safe for consumption. The operation involved inspecting food items in all spaza shops in the ward to ensure they were in good condition.
In addition to the inspections, officials provided shop owners with guidance on proper food handling and storage practices to prevent contamination and foodborne illnesses.
