INVESTIGATIONS ON DUYTWA POST OFFICE ROBBERY CONTINUE

Investigations on the Duytwa hostage case continue. This follows after armed men entered the post office on Friday, 21 October 2022 where one of the men proceeded to fire a shot on the staff that was present at the time, no one got hurt from the shooting.

Brian Matlala, 40-year-old man who shot at the post office staff is reported to have been physically aggressive during the ordeal where he then proceeded to keep the nine staff members hostage for several hours before police arrested him.

The court disclosed that Matlala was previously convicted for vehicle theft and now faces charges of attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping and being in possession of an illegal firearm.

It is alleged that two other men that were involved in the robbery fled the scene with two cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money and are yet to be arrested.

Matlala will remain in custody until he’s next court appearance on the 31st October 2022.

Post office will remain closed till further notice.
