15 and 16 April 20121, The department of education and Ingquza Hill Local Municipality in collaboration with other stakeholders, including Breard Foundation, Ingquza Youth Council and local professionals held a successful career exhibition under the “mayoral week” calendar.

This event forms part of a mayoral calendar which include sport tournaments and other events.

According to the mayor’s office, the career exhibition is meant for school children doing grade 8 to grade 12. To assist learners in terms of career choices, orientation and in terms of subject choices. This career exhibition is also meant to link learners with institutions of higher learning. So they could come and present courses and how to access them.

“We are dealing with this program in the spirit of district development model. That we should not work in isolation but collaborate and pull resources into one basket” – – Says Mr Matwasa, manager at the mayor’s office.

Unfortunately, these programs have been heavily affected by covid and term assessments (March Exams).

Ingquza Hill Local Municipality is currently planning on doing road shows through radio and other mediums of communication such as Inkonjane FM, Alfred Nzo Community Radio and Sajonisi Youth Radio. “We use these because they all cater and reach different parts of the communities we serve” – says Mr Matwasa

According to Mr Matwasa, learners at the expo received the program well even though some were shy. “To address the issue of learners who reach university without computer literacy, the department of Education would provide a better answer.” Commented Mr Matwasa
