Being new in the djing world and not receiving positive feedback did not stop Andiswa from following her passion it only encouraged her to do better.
Local DJ, Andiswa Zitumane aka Dj Andy G who started DJing last year in June was drawn to music because of how it brings people together and also heals.
As someone who started DJing for fun, she saw that investing your time in what you are passionate about and listening to other people while playing helped her improve her set and eventually received positive feedback from the audience and received interview invites.
She was a resident DJ at Inkonjane Community Radio celebrating Women’s Month.
When IÂ started djing the challenges I had people did not know who I was and some were very skeptical, some at first did not enjoy the music I was playing they would ask for the music to be changed while I was playing. Those challenges helped me to see where I lacked and what it was that I needed to improve on or do, – she explains.
Andy G believes that the relationship between choices and expectations in djing is influenced by the audience.
When asked about the female DJs on the rise and for years there was a distinct lack of girl power behind decks she said: Well I think it’s because a lot of club owners, and promoters who are male did not favor females a lot back then, but that is slowly changing and female DJs are being recognized.
Learning from other people is important as it makes you grow and it also makes you respect your craft. – she concludes.
