In the heart of the Eastern Cape province, a beacon of hope and empowerment shines brightly. Miss Golden Heart South Africa, a national beauty pageant, is making waves under the dedicated leadership of Mrs. Isipho Madondile-Wanga and Mr. Siyamamkela Wanga. With a firm commitment to community involvement and the promotion of self-confidence, this pageant is not your typical glamour showcase. Instead, it’s a platform for positive change and personal growth.
Giving Back: A Pageant with a Purpose
What sets Miss Golden Heart South Africa apart is its unwavering dedication to community service. Each year, finalists are required to participate in charity work, touching the lives of those in need. Whether it’s donating gently used clothes, visiting orphanages, or reaching out to the elderly in old age homes, these young women are making a difference in their communities.
The pageant’s ethos is encapsulated by their famous hashtags, #beselfconfident and #beyou. In a world where societal pressures often push young people to adopt false personas, Miss Golden Heart South Africa encourages its participants to embrace their true selves. The belief is that self-confidence is the foundation for personal growth and positive change.
Raising Queens, Not Just Sash Collectors
Miss Golden Heart South Africa’s focus extends beyond the pageant itself. The organization is dedicated to nurturing queens who serve their communities, not just collect sashes. This commitment starts during the finalists’ journey, where they are instilled with the understanding that they hold the future of their country in their hands.
A Glorious 2023 Coronation
The success of Miss Golden Heart South Africa’s 2023 coronation event is a testament to the dedication and uniqueness of the pageant. The Meet & Greet ceremony at Hemingways Mall in East London drew significant crowds, reflecting the respect and anticipation that the pageant has garnered over the past 3-4 years. The Eastern Cape province, often overlooked or underestimated, now proudly hosts a national beauty pageant that shines on a national stage.
Lavish Prizes and Unforgettable Experiences
The pageant’s winners are rewarded with more than just sashes. Over the years, they’ve received cash prizes, fully paid trips to Durban, ocean boat cruises, restaurant outings, hotel stays, and much more. The highlight of this year’s prizes was a mesmerizing sponsorship from Multi-Award Winning Philanthropist and businessman, Pamela Niemand. She provided a weekend getaway at South Africa’s luxurious Ellipse Waterfall Executive Apartments in Midrand, Gauteng. The reigning queens basked in luxury for two nights, an experience they described as the most comforting they’ve ever had.
The Reign of Three Remarkable Queens
This year’s crowned queens—Obioma Nweke, Fanele Sibiya, and Inako George—are poised to make a lasting impact. In closing, we hear directly from the queens themselves:
Question: Inako, how did you feel when you heard your name being announced as queen?
Well, on the day of the pageant, my aim was not to panic but to remain calm all the way. I knew that I had done everything to the best of my ability during the journey. When my name was announced as a queen, I cried, I was in disbelief, I was thankful that after all my hard work and challenges, I got the crown. I felt really proud of myself.
Question: What are your plans as the newly crowned queen?
I want to make sure that everyone lives according to the brand’s motto, which is ‘Be self-confident, Be You.’ I believe it all starts there. I have a lot I want to do for our youth so they can shift their focus to more important things that will have a positive impact in their lives.
QUESTION: WHAT MADE YOU ENTER FOR MISS GOLDEN HEART SOUTH AFRICA?
When I first saw the pageant, something caught my eye and that was the way they teach young girls to give back to their community and that really inspired me and showed me I can make a difference one step at a time and through the Miss Golden Heart South Africa platform. From day one as a Finalist till to today, as a Queen there is no day that goes by without learning something new and trust me, you always have someone to guide you in the right path that’s what makes this journey so amazing. I am proud to say I grow each and everyday and I know there is still a lot to learn and the positive energy I get from directors is the amount of energy I am sure willing to give to my community.
QUESTION: WHAT CAN WE EXPECT DURING YOUR REIGN?
I believe that I was born to make a difference in this world so one step at a time, I am going to make a difference starting in my community and I know I do not need to be a millionaire to make a change. As I reign I plan to inspire every young girl and show them that no one can define who they are but themselves. My aspirations are to make a change through the Miss Golden Heart South Africa platform. I aspire to make great change in the way the young minds think about themselves. To build a better generation one step at a time. I believe charity starts at home, making difference in my community and influencing young minds can make an even bigger difference in the whole world.
Question: What are the challenges you faced prior to the event day?
One of the challenges that I had to overcome was having a lot to juggle because Miss Golden Heart South Africa had a lot of requirements for the finalists. As a result, I had to plan and ensure that my time management is on point so I can fulfill all my required duties and make sure I secure a spot for me to make it till the very last moment.
Question: What can we expect during your reigning period?
Empowering young girls in my community by teaching and helping them start what they really aspire to be, which is becoming models. I believe sharing a few tips with fellow sisters won’t do any harm. Being together and having those one-on-one talks about our roles in society and make sure they also make time for love. So to sum up everything that I’m basically trying to say is that, us as girls can actually work together in creating change.
Miss Golden Heart South Africa is not just a beauty pageant; it’s a platform for empowerment, community service, and positive change. As these queens embark on their journey, they are sure to leave an indelible mark on South African communities.
