The Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Honourable Councillor Vukile Mhlelembana, launched the Public Service Month on September 10, 2024, at Zwelitsha Senior Secondary School. The annual event aims to encourage public servants to deliver quality services to citizens and promote a culture of “batho pele” (people first).
The launch also raised awareness about the role of public service and its impact on citizens’ lives, while opening discussions on challenges faced by public servants. Government departments, including Social Development, SAPS, Health, and Education, reflected on their impact and role in delivering better services to the district.
As part of the event, the Department of Social Development provided social workers to address the high rate of teenage pregnancy at the school, and learners engaged in dialogue to find solutions. Residents, like Philip Nyamela, appreciated the government services rendered in their village, saving them time and money.
Mayor Mhlelembana emphasized the government’s responsibility to respond to social ills and provide better services, especially as the country marks 30 years of freedom.
