In pursuit of her interest in fashion, Zimvo saw an opportunity to introduce her swimwear range during spring, as spring and summer are a perfect time for vacations and people tend to need swimsuits.
21-year-old Zimvo Diko hails from Mbangweni in a small-town Ntabankulu. She studied Internal auditing at Walter Sisulu University but in the process, she fell in love with fashion after completing her qualification she decided to explore her interest in clothing. “Growing up I’ve always been someone who loves color and who loved styling my clothes and practicing makeup because at some point I wanted to become a makeup artist but because of less knowledge I went for Internal auditing,” she recalls.
When she bought a sewing machine, she had no idea that her hobby would turn into a business. After sewing her first products she then posted them on Facebook and Instagram, she got a positive response and decided right there to turn her hobby into a business. “I started taking orders and people who became my clients were happy about my products and that gave me a great energy to continue,” she explains.
Getting a supplier with suitable fabric that she needed to fulfill her client’s orders was one of the challenges she faced, also doing everything by herself from sewing to taking orders and doing admin.

When asked what advice, she would give to other women looking to start up, Zimvo says: “In life, you will never know where something will take you unless you explore it so start that business you want and seek help from people you know can help.
