Eskom Introduces Stage 6 Loadshedding Amidst Critical Generation Shortfall

Date:

In response to the loss of five generating units and a severe shortage of generation capacity, Eskom has announced an increase in loadshedding to Stage 6 from 12:00 to 05:00 on Monday.

Unplanned outages have left the system with a deficit of 15,901MW, compounded by 5,822MW out of service for planned maintenance.

Eskom assures continuous monitoring of the power system and pledges to communicate any loadshedding changes promptly. With a peak demand forecast of 27,206MW, Eskom’s teams are working tirelessly to restore additional generating units.

The public is urged to conserve electricity during the evening peak by switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, contributing to a reduction in loadshedding stages.
