eskom loadshedding

In a response to unforeseen challenges, Eskom announces the implementation of Stage 3 loadshedding starting at 16:00 this afternoon. This decision comes on the heels of setbacks, including the shutdown of six generating units and delays in restoring three units to service.

The schedule intensifies over the weekend, with Stage 3 loadshedding from 05:00 to 16:00 on Saturday, followed by Stage 4 loadshedding from 16:00 to 05:00. This pattern will persist until Sunday, when Eskom promises a further update for the upcoming week.

Currently facing 15 561MW of unplanned outages and 7 828MW undergoing planned maintenance, Eskom Power Station General Managers and their teams are tirelessly working to bring 1 960MW of generating capacity back into service by Monday evening.

Eskom’s load forecast for the Friday evening peak demand is 25 169MW. The power utility emphasizes the need for vigilance, urging the public to use electricity sparingly and efficiently. Simple measures, such as turning off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, contribute to lowering demand and alleviating pressure on the power system, potentially mitigating loadshedding stages.

Eskom assures continuous monitoring of the power system, pledging prompt communication of any changes if required. The public is urged to stay informed and cooperate during this challenging period.
