Eskom has reached a significant milestone, completing 275 consecutive days without loadshedding since March 26, 2024. This achievement demonstrates Eskom’s commitment to providing reliable electricity to South Africa.
The power utility’s Generation Recovery Plan and enhanced maintenance protocols have improved operational performance, reducing unplanned outages by 8.1% compared to the same period last year. As a result, Eskom has saved R16.20 billion in diesel costs, a 65.1% decrease from the R24.89 billion spent during the same period last year.
Eskom’s Energy Availability Factor (EAF) has also improved, averaging 62.37% year-to-date, a 7% increase from the same period last year. The utility’s planned maintenance strategy has enabled it to increase maintenance activities during the December summer break, with an average of 8,000MW undergoing maintenance.
Eskom remains on track to meet electricity demand, with an available generation capacity of 26,906MW and a peak demand forecast of 22,474MW. The utility urges customers to continue using electricity efficiently and to report any illegal activities to the Eskom Crime Line.
Eskom’s next update will be on January 3, 2025, or sooner if significant changes occur.
