  • International Literacy Day 2025 Celebration: Ndimakude Library in Ward 29 hosted a celebration with activities aimed at promoting literacy and excitement for learning, emphasizing the integration of digital tools in education.
  • Activities Enhancing Literacy and Creativity: Participants engaged in activities such as English word puzzles, quizzes, book reviews, and isiXhosa storytelling to foster literacy, creativity, and cultural appreciation.

Ndimakude Library in Ward 29 is the centre of learning and excitement today as the municipality, together with local partners, celebrates International Literacy Day 2025. The theme, “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”, highlights the role of technology in supporting reading and learning for young people.

Learners from nearby schools are taking part in a variety of activities designed to improve literacy and creativity. Here are the main events:

  1. English Word Puzzle: Students test their vocabulary and problem-solving skills.
  2. MiniLibs Quiz: A fun, interactive English quiz challenging knowledge and quick thinking.
  3. Book Review: Learners share insights and opinions on their favourite books.
  4. Izaci namaqhalo (IsiXhosa storytelling): Creative storytelling in isiXhosa to celebrate local language and culture.

Officials noted that combining traditional reading with digital tools will help prepare students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution while fostering a lifelong love for learning. The event also encourages teamwork, confidence, and a strong sense of community among young learners.
