The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has addressed public reactions and media inquiries following Minister Gayton McKenzie‘s recent instruction to publish the names of creatives and athletes who have received financial support from the Department.
In particular, DSAC responded to concerns regarding the lack of financial backing provided to Makhadzi for her recent trip to the BET Awards in the United States, where she proudly won the award for Best New International Act. The Department strongly rejected claims that it has not supported Makhadzi, highlighting that she has been booked for several national engagements by DSAC over the past 14 months, earning a total of 230,000 rand for her performances.
The mandate of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is to create local and global platforms and collaborations which empower the country’s creative sector, – DSAC stated.
The Department reaffirmed its commitment to supporting creatives by offering various opportunities for them to showcase their talents both locally and internationally.
DSAC dismissed assertions from creatives who have received Department support but claimed otherwise. The Department emphasized its ongoing dedication to nurturing and promoting the nation’s artistic talents, ensuring they have the necessary platforms and resources to succeed.
