The murder case involving Sibongile Dlamini, the widow of Metro Police Officer Banele Sikhosana, has been postponed to Friday for further investigations. Dlamini is alleged to have arranged a hit on her husband, who was shot dead in cold blood in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni, on February 7 .
One of the suspects appeared alongside Dlamini after she was arrested last week Friday, a day before her husband’s funeral. The case has sparked concerns about the safety of law enforcement officers in the region.
According to the city of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the killing of Officer Sikhosana is part of a larger problem.
“Banele is killed hardly a month after the killing of another officer in Tembisa – a traffic warden in the EMPD. So, that tells you that there is a problem. But the bottom line is that we have lost members of the EMPD, and that actually minimizes our strength in terms of fighting crime.”
The city plans to embark on a public relations exercise to educate people about the importance of protecting law enforcement officers. As the investigation continues, the community remains on high alert, awaiting justice for the slain officer.
