Police in Upington arrested two suspects aged 33 and 35 after they were found with suspected stolen livestock on 03 December 2025. The arrests followed a complaint lodged by a Kenhardt farmer on 02 December 2025.
What Happened
On 02 December 2025, the farmer reported that meat-master sheep worth more than R200 000 had been stolen from his farm. Preliminary investigations led the Upington Stock Theft and Endangered Species Investigation Unit, supported by Paballelo SAPS, to a small holding near Upington.
Officers discovered 68 sheep hidden inside a zinc structure. The animals matched the description provided by the farmer. The complainant confirmed the ear tattoo marks and identified the stock as his.
The investigation continued. Police then moved to a residence in Paballelo. They arrested the two suspects after finding three carcasses with identification marks similar to those reported by the farmer. Police also seized a truck believed to have been used during the theft.
Charges and Court Appearance
The suspects were charged with livestock theft. They are expected to appear in the Upington Magistrates Court soon. Police said investigations would continue.
Police Response
ZF Mgcawu District Commissioner, Major General Monica Sebili, praised the officers. She said their swift response and teamwork led to the successful recovery of the stolen livestock and the arrest of the suspects.
