In separate incidents between 10 and 12 July, police operations in Lusikisiki, Libode, and Mqanduli led to the recovery of three unlicensed firearms along with ammunition. The weapons have been sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in other crimes.

The suspects, aged between 27 and 41, face charges ranging from possession of suspected stolen stock to unlawful possession of firearms. They are expected to appear in various Magistrates’ Courts across the district.

Operation Shanela 2, a district-wide crime-combating initiative, continues to focus on high-priority crimes affecting communities in the region. Police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a strong presence in rural and urban areas to curb livestock theft and gun-related offences.

Authorities have urged the public to continue working with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity. Police believe that community cooperation remains crucial in reducing crime and ensuring successful prosecutions.
