CREATING HEALTH PROFILE OF WOMEN ON WOMEN’S DAY

The the theme for Women’s Day this year was “Women’s Socio-Economic, Rights and  Empowerment: Building Back Better For Women’s Improved Resilience.”

In celebrating this year’s Women’s Day, the Eastern Cape Provincial government was held at Open Grounds Sports Field in Matatiele, Alfred Ndzo District Municipality joined by the Health Department to provide with health services duty while celebrating Women’s Day.

This was a great platform for both the Eastern Cape Provincial Government as well as the Department of Health in the province, to highlight issues that affect women such as to find ways to improve the economic well-being of women and to raise health awareness on women.

Offering health services in this celebration was part of governments efforts to ensure that all citizens of this province have access to quality healthcare. Health Services offered were screening to chronic ailments, HIV&AIDS and TB screening Covid-19 screening and vaccination, women’s health services including pep-smear, breast cancer screening, family planning, eye services and dental services.

Speaking to the crowd that attended the Women’s Day celebration, Premier of Eastern Cape Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane said, “We have a responsibility now more than ever to instil good teachings on how to treat women and the girl child to young boys, or else we run a risk of having a generation of men that will abuse women and children. Let us inculcate in the minds of the boys at an early age that women are the flowers of the nation, who should always be respected and be treated with love.”
