Commuters in the Alfred Nzo district are displeased with the decision taken by Taxi associations to increase taxi fare

Date:

Commuters in the Alfred Nzo district are displeased with the decision taken by Taxi associations to increase taxi fare. This follows after the Taxi sector announced that taxi fares will increase in the region.

One of the Taxi drivers who asked to be kept anonymous says they did plug posters to alert commuter about the upcoming changes. Adding that as the drivers they are facing a huge challenge of fuel hike and that has forced them into taking this decision as they are also feeling the pinch.

Nancy Mgwebi from Dutyini at Maxesibeni says as the residents they are not happy about this sudden hike as they are unemployed and have no other sources of income. Some residents are complaining about the behavior of Taxi drivers when asking about reasons behind the increase in prices.

“These prices are too much, I think Taxi associations should check distances before pricing because you’d find people who travel 5 minutes to town paying same amount of money as those travelling longer distances”, says Nhlakanipho Mvubu a commuter from Maxesibeni.

Prices have increased for both short and long-distance travellers. People are advised to check with taxi drivers the amount of money they supposed to pay before getting inside a taxi, as they won’t be allowed to ask for a discounted price.
