In one of the districts’ attempts of fighting the plague of crime and gender-based violence incidents in Ngobozana at a local area in Lusikisiki, which was identified as Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) and crime hotspot.
As Lusikisiki was one of the three top hotspots areas across South Africa on the list of top thirty police stations nationally on rape and sexual offenses, for the same period, detectives from Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) arrested thirty-two suspects in Lusikisiki on charges ranging from rape to sexual offenses. For the same period where twelve accused persons were convicted and sentenced with two notable sentences in May, Siyavuya Feketiso (20) and in June, Mthokozisi Sontube (25), each sentenced to life imprisonment for rape.
