As we celebrate World Radio Day, on the 13 of February, we had the opportunity to sit down with Amahle Mbangatha, affectionately known as “Mahle-M,” a radio host at Inkonjane Community Radio. In our conversation, Mahle-M shared her passion for radio, her journey in the industry, and her thoughts on the power of radio to bring people together.
The Power of Radio
“Today, we celebrate the power of radio to bring people together, to inspire, and to educate,” Mahle-M said. “Radio has the unique ability to reach remote communities, to provide a platform for marginalized voices, and to foster global understanding.”
A Personal Journey
Mahle-M’s journey in radio began in 2019 when she underwent six months of training at Inkonjane Community Radio while studying Public Relations at varsity. After completing her training, she went back to varsity but was soon called back to radio. “A calling is a calling, and I believe radio is my calling,” she said.
Growth and Achievements
Since joining Inkonjane Community Radio as a presenter in 2022, Mahle-M has grown significantly in the industry. She has won awards, become a content producer, and is currently a PR and Marketing Assistant at Inkonjane FM. “I’m a person who is eager to learn about everything that has to do with radio,” she said.
Inspiration and Motivation
Mahle-M’s inspiration comes from her childhood, where she would mimic radio and TV presenters. She also draws inspiration from her community, where she is determined to make a difference. “I want the younger generation to know and believe that your background shouldn’t hold you back from dreaming big and doing all you can to pursue your dreams.”
