The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced scheduled blasting operations along sections of the N2 in February 2025, impacting travel between East London, King Williams Town (Qonce), and Gqeberha.
Blasting operations will take place at 15h00 on the following dates:
- Monday, 3 February 2025
- Thursday, 6 February 2025
- Monday, 10 February 2025
- Thursday, 13 February 2025
- Monday, 17 February 2025
- Thursday, 20 February 2025
- Monday, 24 February 2025
- Thursday, 27 February 2025
The road will be closed from 15h00 for a maximum of one hour, up to 16h00, to ensure safety and allow for debris clearance. Additionally, sections of the N2 will be constrained to a single lane (stop-go system) for 24 hours per day at specific points:
- Section 13 from km 84+500 to km 85+900
- Section 13 from km 79+100 to km 79+600
Alternative Routes
To minimize disruptions, motorists are encouraged to use the following alternative routes:
- Westbound (East London/King Williams Town to Gqeberha): Take the R72 via Port Alfred and Kenton-on-Sea, joining the N2 at Nanaga.
- Eastbound (Gqeberha to King Williams Town/East London): Take the N2 to Nanaga, turn onto the R72 through Alexandria and Port Alfred to East London.
“Motorists are requested to plan their trips accordingly, consider alternative routes, and exercise caution when using the roads,” said Andrew van Gruting, SANRAL Southern Region’s Acting Regional Manager.
