The mass funeral of two taxi drivers and their assistants was held in the playground near Total Energies fuel station following the gruesome killing of the four took place in Port Shepstone on Tuesday the 25th of July. The families and the public gathered to send their sad last goodbyes to the young men who were brutally gunned down.
Chairman of the Bizana Taxi Owner’s Association, Bheki Mjweni said from the day the tragedy was reported. All Alfred Nzo taxi associations came to the office and showed great support and as the office. They have no hostility towards anyone. He also said they are very grateful to the families of the deceased for allowing them to mourn with them. The chairman also advised that no one should take the law into their own hands, but justice must be served through the authorities.
“Sumbala Uzomdinga” said the president of the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) he said the perpetrators are very close to understanding the meaning of that saying as they don’t want to lose any member of the taxi association. He emphasized that circumstances have led to taxi owners carrying guns and it is quite unethical that this tragedy happened on the driver because he had it in good authority that only taxi owners are not safe.
A member of the executive of drivers spoke on behalf of all the drivers thanking other drivers for showing support in their time of mourning. He Specified that Lusikisiki, Flagstaff, Port Shepstone and Durban drivers showed support in a way a brother would, he then requested the congregation to keep praying for drivers as they are in shock and deeply wounded.
Families expressed their message of support to the Bizana taxi owner’s association for the support they received during their time of sorrow.
