The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has welcomed the 2022 matric results as announced by the Department of Basic Education with a notable improvement in all provinces. Given many challenges learners face in the public education system, where in rural provinces infrastructure remains a major challenge, ATM applauds teachers for producing quality results amidst all the obstacles.
“It should, however, be noted that our basic education curriculum remains far behind and needs to be overhauled in order for it to be skills based and matched according to the strong offerings of the country in terms of minerals, information technology, etc, all to ensure that these learners are employable post their academic careers.”reads a statement released by ATM
ATM is calling on the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to sort out their affairs, stop the late confirmation of funding for awarded students as this seems to be creating chaos and unrest in higher education institutions, with some students facing deregistration by higher education institutions.
According to the statement, no child born after 1994 should face the uncertainty of not having a place at university due to lack of funding, or the assurance of that. As the new academic year is starting, ATM is issuing a warning to the Department of Basic Education and supporting departments to fast track the delivery of study material, approval of government subsidised transportation programs, review of learning classroom, and curriculum review to allow the introduction of special schools/curriculum in rural areas, in line with international standards and future careers.
We sincerely congratulate the class of 2022 and wish the class of 2023 the best in their academic year.
