Bizana has been left reeling after a daring armed robbery in the early hours of Monday morning, July 15, resulted in the death of a police officer and left several others critically injured.
The robbery began with an ATM bombing, followed by a intense shootout between the alleged robbers and police officers. The incident occurred at Total Garage, leaving one police officer dead and three others injured.
The main road between FNB and the Roman Catholic Church remains closed, with traffic diverted to alternative routes such as the hospital back road and the highland back road. The incident has also affected two electricity poles, resulting in power outages in the area.
Mayor Cllr TD Mafumbatha has extended her condolences to the families of the deceased police officer, the leader of the business forum from Sizityaneni, and the injured police officers. She urged the community to have faith in the law and called for the swift arrest of those responsible.
The police are currently on the crime scene, and technicians are working to restore electricity supply as soon as possible. The municipality apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the incident and assures the public that every effort is being made to restore normalcy to the area.
