Cape Town–based folk-pop artist Lu’Ah has released “Burnt,” the latest single from her forthcoming debut EP, From the Ether. Framed as more than a breakup song, “Burnt” positions itself as an anthem for anyone ready to shed an outdated self and step into a new chapter.
Recorded after a period of personal upheaval, the track blends intimate folk storytelling with modern pop textures. It builds from muted guitar motifs to a soaring, layered chorus, mirroring the lyric’s move from hesitation to resolve. “Burnt is about breaking up with yourself,” Lu’Ah says. “It’s the moment you realise someone else has been narrating your life—partners, culture, expectations—and you choose to take it back. When you break free, everything that held you down gets burnt.”
@luahartist I am Lu’Ah. An artist. A musician. A mother. Someone entrusted with the gift of songs and the words that carry them. I live for creation, for the tenderness of love, and for the small companions who remind me of presence. This is me, arriving as I am. #LuAh #fyp #feminecreativity #consciouscreation
Lu’Ah describes her writing as a process of custodianship rather than control. “I’ve learned I’m not here to possess the songs. I’m their custodian. They come through me when I surrender. ‘Burnt’ was one of those songs—it arrived like a fire, demanding to be sung.”
According to the artist, the single sits inside what she calls her “SoulSong” universe—a creative space where transformation is central and songs are treated as frequencies that guide healing, intuition and self-expression. The debut EP, From the Ether, due later this year, traces a journey “from silence to self-possession,” with each release presented as a small, immersive world of sound and story.
“Burnt” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
