ANC Eastern Cape Speaks on GBV charges against Umzimvubu Local Municipality Speaker

Date:

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has released a statement expressing how  appalled it is by the inhumane and barbaric conduct of Umzimvubu Local Municipality Speaker, Councilor Happy Ngqasa who is accused of physically assaulting to the pulp a young woman from Kwa Bhaca in November 2022.

The ANC has strongly condemned this act and has suspended his membership immediately, disciplinary measures will follow. Cllr. Ngqasa has been recalled as a Speaker immediately, and the ANC will be calling for the Council to convene in the next fortnight to elect a new Speaker in Umzimvubu Local Municipality.

“We call on the police authorities to investigate the police who tried to conceal and acted in negotiating withdrawal of the case – as this case weakens the collective resolve to root out in our society of barbaric acts of this nature. We will follow up on this matter and monitor it very closely.” said a statement released by ANC in the Eastern Cape

The ANC has applauded Ms Onele Tshunguzi for speaking out even at the risk to her life. She is part of heroes against the GBVF. The ANC said other victims must also be  encouraged to speak out and use public platforms so to gain public support and wide condemnations of acts of this nature.

The ANC is calling up on law enforcement agencies to take action whenever and wherever this act escalates by arresting and bringing the perpetrators to book.

“The ANC is in a perpetual mode of Renewal – ANC ayingomqolomba wazihange.

We will unearth all criminals hiding behind our organization for their nefarious deeds. The society must join the movement towards the renewal project.”
