The ANC has welcomed Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, calling it a roadmap for growth, job creation, and inclusive development.
What Happened
The African National Congress (ANC) has endorsed the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), tabled on 12 November 2025, as aligning with its election commitments. The party said the plan protects spending on social grants and public infrastructure while promoting inclusive growth and tackling the high cost of living.
Key announcements include:
- R943 billion in infrastructure investment over three years
- R58 billion more for social protection
- R49 billion for NSFAS and the hiring of 15,000 health workers
- Inflation-linked increases to grants
- Plans to cut corruption and improve local service delivery
Official Response
ANC acting national spokesperson Nonceba Mhlauli said the budget reflects “fiscal discipline and social justice” under ANC leadership. The party also praised South Africa’s removal from the FATF grey list and supported measures to strengthen SARS, promote clean governance, and enhance accountability through tools like the eTender dashboard.
“The ANC calls on SARS to strengthen its programmes and on government to show discipline in delivering on its commitments,” Mhlauli said.
Community Impact
The ANC says the budget will improve access to health, education, and economic opportunities — especially in poorer communities. Infrastructure upgrades in energy, water, roads, and ports are expected to drive job creation and support local business.
Additional highlights:
- Presidential Employment Stimulus: R36 billion
- Municipal Infrastructure Grant: R17.5 billion
- Land reform & rural development: R18 billion
The party called for continued consultation with trade unions, GNU partners, and communities to accelerate inclusive growth.
